URL Rewrite Module 1.1 for IIS 7

URL rewrite module provides a rule-based rewriting mechanism for changing requested URL’s before they get processed by web server.

The Microsoft URL Rewrite Module 1.1 for IIS 7 provides flexible rules-based rewrite engine that can be used to perform broad spectrum of URL manipulation tasks, including, but not limited to:

  • Enabling user friendly and search engine friendly URL with dynamic web applications;
  • Rewriting URL’s based on HTTP headers and server variables;
  • Web site content handling;
  • Controlling access to web site content based on URL segments or request metadata.

New Exchange TechCenter on TechNet

Microsoft has re-launched a new TechCenter for Exchange on TechNet, with primary focus on Exchange 2010 of course. Still a lot of information in the Library about older Exchange versions though.

Backscatter protection

This great blog post by the Forefront team about Backscatter protection and how to deal with it using Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server.

In essence, backscatter is a DSN (Delivery Status Notification) delivered to a recipient who never sent the original mail in the first place. While the DSN itself is perfectly legitimate and valid notification initiated by a reputable MTA, it has been sent to a user who never initiated the original mail transaction.

OCS 2007 R2 Web Service Provider Released

Good news – the OCS service provider for Exchange is now released. The OCS service provider will enable IM connectivity to OCS 2007 R2 from Exchange 2010 Outlook Web App (OWA).

With Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Web Service Provider, administrators can implement basic instant messaging and presence functionality for Microsoft Office Outlook®-Live users.

The Exchange team has release the Exchange 2010 Mailbox Server Role requirements calculator. This is a very useful tool for designing Exchange 2010 environments.

URL Rewrite Module v2 – RC

The IIS Team has released a new version on the URL Rewrite Module, ver. 2.0 is now released as Release Candidate and available for download.

Microsoft URL Rewrite Module 2.0 for IIS 7 is an incremental release that includes all the features from version 1.1, and adds support for outbound response headers and content rewriting. More specifically, it can be used to:

  • Replace the URLs generated by a web application in the response HTML with a more user friendly and search engine friendly equivalent
  • Modify the links in the HTML markup generated by a web application behind a reverse proxy.
  • Fix up the content of any HTTP response by using regular expression pattern matching.
  • Modify HTTP request headers and IIS server variables.
  • Modify HTTP response headers

The URL Rewrite Module is a free module from Microsoft and is supported with IIS 7 and IIS 7.5.

Exchange 2010 General Availability

Exchange Server 2010 is as of Nov. 9th available to everyone worldwide.

Can also be downloaded from TechNet, MSDN or Licensing.

OCS Cumulative Server Update

Last week Microsoft released a cumulative server update for OCS 2007 R2, it contains all the OCS 2007 R2 hotfixes. So basically one installer with all OCS hotfixes, that was also needed.
