Microsoft has published a new architecture poster, this time an overview of the Hyper-V Component Architecture.
This poster provides a visual reference for understanding key Hyper-V technologies in Windows Server 2008 R2. It focuses on architecture, snapshots, live migration, virtual networking, storage, and import/export. You can use this poster in conjunction with the previously published Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 component posters (see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=193499 and http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=179116).

Great news from Microsoft, with SP1 for Windows Server 2008. They will be releasing two great new features for Hyper-V.
- Dynamic Memory which allows virtual machines to automatically adjust the amount of physical memory they reserve based on the workload running in the virtual machine at runtime ‘dynamically’.
- RemoteFX which enables virtual machine users to received a full 3D multimedia experience remotely though enhanced remote desktop connections.

Found a great Whitepaper on Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) Performance.
The following paper is focused on giving in-depth performance data on Virtual Hard Disks. Comparisons are generally made between native, Window Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2. When comparing Windows Server 2008 and Window Server 2008 R2, no virtual machines are used unless explicitly stated. The goal of this paper is to look at virtual hard disk performance and not Hyper-V performance.

A few months back I moved from VMware Server to Hyper-V and in that process I found a great tool to convert all my .vmdk files to .vhd files.
So if you are ever in the need of converting your virtual guests from VMware Server to Hyper-V like me. I can recommend the great tool I found, which is V2V Converter from Starwind Software. It really helped me and saved me a lot of time in converting all my .vmdk files to .vhd and importing them into Hyper-V afterwards. I’ve tried other tools to convert to VHD, but this worked the best for me.
The feature of V2V Converter:
• Converts from VMDK to VHD and vice versa
• Sector by sector copy
• Does not modify source image
• Easy to install and use
