Microsoft has released a web server edition of Windows Server 2008, called Windows Web Server 2008. This is a great product and the new version has fewer limitations than on Windows 2003. The memory limit has been increased (now 32GB on x64) and it’s now possible to install some applications on it, needed for web hosting, such as Windows SharePoint Services, Windows Media Services and SQL Server. SQL Server 2005 needs a hotfix to been installed on Windows 2008, read more about this in Bill Staples blog post below.
Windows Web Server 2008 is about half the price of the Windows Server 2008 Standard edition, so it’s great for hosting environments.

Microsoft has released Remote Server Administration Tool (RSAT), it’s now available for download.
Microsoft Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) enables IT administrators to remotely manage roles and features in Windows Server 2008 from a computer running Windows Vista SP1. It includes support for remote management of computers running either a Server Core or full installation option of Windows Server 2008.

A great milestone has been reached - Microsoft has released Windows Server 2008 to manufacturing (RTM), which means the product (Windows Server 2008) and IIS 7.0 is final.

Microsoft has released a new updated version (build 340178) of the AdminPak for Windows Server 2003 SP2.
The Administration Tools Pack allows administrators to install the Windows Server 2003 SP2 management tools onto a computer running Windows XP Professional or a Windows Server 2003 family operating system to perform remote server management functions.

Microsoft has officially launched Windows Home Server today. Windows Home Server is a new solution from Microsoft, to help families easily protect, connect and share their digital media and documents.
OEM hardware vendors is releasing Home Servers based on Windows Home Server OS, to name a few vendors; HP, Medion, Fujitsu Siemens, Iomega.
A lot of third-party software developers have already created more than 35 innovative add-in programs to run on the Windows Home Server platform. These solutions provide personal blogging and media sharing, home security, home automation, protection against viruses and malware, and more.

Windows Home Server has now been released to manufactoring.
Woo-hoo! We did it. Today we are announcing that Windows Home Server has been released to manufacturing (RTM). We have finalized the software and now handing it off to our OEM partners. The evaluation version (with 120 day evaluation period) and the system builder version are also heading into the distribution channels and will be available in the next couple of months. French, German and Spanish versions will be finalized shortly, and OEM products will hit retail shelves this fall.
