Microsoft has released the awaited update Azure Active Directory Sync Services Tool.

The tools was formerly known as: Windows Azure Active Directory Sync or just referred to by many as DirSync.

These tools are used to synchronize user identities to Azure AD for use with Office 365, Intune or Azure services, this way user identities can be managed through the local on-premise Active Directory.

Microsoft has announced that the newly released Azure Active Directory Sync Services tool will be replacing DirSync in the near future. Azure Active Directory Sync Services is suppose to get a number of new capabilities that DirSync and Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2 won’t get.

Microsoft has published a table comparing the current and future capabilities of DirSync, Azure Active Directory Sync and Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2:
